View from Bergisel around 1900. From a private collection.

Innsbruck grew to the foot of Bergisel during a building boom around the turn of the century.

This is how the painters of the cyclorama saw the city of Innsbruck and the outlying village of Wilten in 1896. Theirs was the difficult task of portraying a landscape that no longer existed. The artists not only had to leave features that were not present in 1809, for example the Wilten cemetery, out of the picture, but also visualize and paint buildings which had long since been torn down.
