View from Bergisel. Oil painting around 1850. From 'Bergisel' by Michael
Forcher.

Pastoral tranquillity: the view of the Sill Creek and Bergisel looking toward the west in the 1850's.

In the second half of the 19th century, Bergisel became both the memorial site for the regional militia and the home of the Kaiserjaeger, the imperial troops. The construction of roads provided access to the new Innsbruck lookout point. In 1850, church steeples and open fields still dominated the view toward the upper Inn Valley.
